What is set, and why

Every page loads one Google tag from googletagmanager.com, serving two Google products: Analytics, so we can see which pages people actually use, and Google Ads, so we can tell which adverts produce real enquiries and which only produce clicks — without that, we are paying for both equally.

  • _ga and _ga_S8260NCVW8 — set on this domain by Google Analytics, and kept for two years unless you clear them. They hold a randomly generated number that lets Google count you as the same browser across visits. Not a name, and not shared with anyone else.
  • _gcl_au — set on this domain by Google Ads and kept for about 90 days. It holds the click identifier Google attaches to an advert link, so that a quote request made later can be credited to the advert that brought you here. Related _gcl_ cookies may be set if you arrive from an advert.
  • Google may additionally set or read cookies on its own domains, depending on your browser settings and whether you are signed in to a Google account. Those are covered by Google’s privacy policy rather than this one.

The tag tells Google which page you are on, where you arrived from and roughly when. That is what any script loaded from another domain can see, here or anywhere else.

Be aware that the Google Ads half of it does more than count. It also contacts Google’s advertising network — doubleclick.net and google.com — which is what allows Google to show you our adverts again elsewhere. That is remarketing, not just measurement, and it is the part most people mean when they object to being tracked. If you would rather not be in it, the section below tells you how to get out.

What is still not here

The Google tag is the only script on this site served from another domain. Everything below remains absent:

  • No Tag Manager container.
  • No Meta, TikTok or LinkedIn pixel.
  • No chat widget, heatmap tool or session recording.
  • No social media embeds or share widgets that track you.
  • No session cookies — there are no accounts and no logins.
  • No third-party fonts. Typefaces are served from this domain, so loading a page makes no request to an external font service.
  • No embedded maps or videos loading third-party scripts.

What else happens when you visit

Our web host records standard server logs — IP address, timestamp, requested page and browser user agent. This is normal web server behaviour, is not done with cookies, and is used for security and troubleshooting rather than tracking you between sites.

Your browser will cache static files such as stylesheets and fonts so pages load faster on return visits. Caching is not tracking and stores nothing about you.

The quote form

Submitting the quote form sends the details you typed to our server. The form itself sets no cookie and leaves nothing on your device. A successful submission does report a conversion to Google Ads — the bare fact that a quote request happened, with no name, phone number, email address, vehicle or description attached. What happens to the details themselves is covered in the privacy policy.

Turning it off

Blocking or clearing cookies for this site stops all three, and most ad and content blockers stop the tag loading at all. Neither breaks anything: the pages work identically, the quote form still submits, and your enquiry reaches us exactly the same way.

You can also control how Google personalises advertising to you in Google’s own ad settings.

If you would rather we did not process your information for advertising at all, email info@glass-genie.com and say so. We will action it and confirm.

If this changes

Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion tracking were switched on in August 2026, and this page was rewritten to describe them. If anything further is added — another pixel, a chat widget, a tool that records what you do on the page — we will update this page and the privacy policy before switching it on, and add proper consent controls where required. We will not quietly start tracking and backdate a policy to cover it.
