Semi-truck windshield replacement in Dallas

A Class 8 windshield is a different product to a car windshield and it is fitted a different way. Most are flat or lightly curved laminated panes held by a rubber gasket and locking strip rather than bonded to the cab with urethane, and many tractors take two separate panes rather than one.

The commercial reality matters more than the glass. A truck sitting for a windshield is a truck not earning, so the job goes to the yard, the terminal or wherever the tractor is standing.

What changes the job, and the price

Tractor make and model
Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, International and Mack all take different glass, and cab generations within a make differ too.
One-piece or two-piece
Many tractors use two separate panes. Replacing a single damaged side is a smaller job than doing both.
Gasket or bonded
Gasket fitting is the traditional method and has no adhesive cure. Newer cabs are increasingly bonded, which adds cure time before the truck moves.
Heated glass and antenna elements
Heated wiper park areas, embedded antennas and defrost elements all change the part and the price.
Camera and lane-departure hardware
Newer tractors carry forward-facing cameras. Where one is fitted, recalibration applies exactly as it does on a car — and is quoted separately.
Where the truck is standing
Yard, terminal or truck stop all work. What we need is room to open the cab doors fully and work at height across the full width of the screen.

We quote from the vehicle rather than a price list, for the same reason as everything else on this site — see how pricing works. Camera recalibration, where the vehicle needs it, is quoted as a separate line rather than folded into the glass.

What we need to quote it

  • Tractor make, model and year, and the VIN if you have it to hand.
  • Whether the cab takes one pane or two, and which side is damaged.
  • A photograph from outside showing the damage and where it sits relative to the driver's seat.
  • Where the truck will be standing, and whether we need gate access or a site induction.

Send those through the quote form, or call (469) 200-4801 — for commercial work the phone is usually faster, because there are normally two or three questions either way.

Semi-truck & commercial windshields — common questions

Can you come to our yard or terminal?

Yes, and that is how most of this work is done. Tell us the site when you book and whether there is a gate procedure, a visitor induction or a safety briefing we need to complete — those are normal at commercial premises and are far easier to arrange in advance than at the gate on the morning.

Will a cracked windshield fail a DOT inspection?

It can, particularly where the damage sits in the driver's field of vision or exceeds the limits on crack length and spread. We are glass fitters rather than inspectors, so we will not tell you whether a specific crack passes — that is a judgement you should not take from a contractor with an interest in selling you glass. What we will do is look at a photograph and tell you plainly if it is the kind of damage that commonly gets written up.

Do you handle more than one truck at a time?

Yes. If several tractors need glass, tell us how many and where they will be and we will schedule them together, which is more efficient for both of us than booking them one at a time. See the fleet page for how ongoing arrangements work.

Does a truck need calibration after a windshield?

Increasingly yes. Newer tractors carry forward-facing cameras for lane departure and collision mitigation, and replacing the glass moves the camera exactly as it does on a car. Where yours has one, recalibration is quoted as a separate line so you can see what it costs.
