Frequently asked

Questions we actually get asked

About working with us. For questions about a specific job — what a windshield replacement involves, whether a chip is repairable, what calibration your vehicle needs — the service pages go into proper detail.

Booking and scheduling

How quickly can you come out?

It depends far more on glass availability for your specific vehicle than on our schedule. Common vehicles are usually quick; a low-volume or very recent model can take longer to source. Where you are matters too — central Dallas, Irving and Carrollton are easier to reach at short notice than the edges of the coverage area. Call rather than emailing if it is urgent and we will give you a straight answer rather than an optimistic one.

Do I need to be there while you work?

Not for the whole job, but we need access to the vehicle and it has to stay parked through any adhesive cure. Most customers hand over keys at an office or leave the vehicle at home. What we do need is to reach you by phone if something unexpected turns up, such as corrosion under the old glass.

What happens if the technician arrives and the job cannot be completed?

It happens occasionally, and there are three usual reasons: the weather turned and there is no covered parking, the parking space is not workable, or the vehicle turns out to need glass different from what was ordered. In every case we tell you on the spot, explain why, and reschedule. What we will not do is press on with a bonded installation in conditions that will produce a leak six months later. If we find corrosion under the old glass once it is out, that is a different conversation and we will show you photographs before deciding anything.

What happens if it rains on the day?

For a bonded replacement, we reschedule unless your parking is covered. Water at the bond line is where leaks and adhesion failures start, and no amount of scheduling pressure makes that acceptable. A chip repair is more tolerant but still wants dry glass. We would rather move your appointment than install a windshield that leaks in October.

How we work

Are you a shop or a mobile service?

Glass Genie operates as a mobile service-area business across Dallas and DFW. We travel to the vehicle rather than asking you to bring it in, and we do not publish a walk-in address because listing one where nobody works would be misleading. The one genuine limitation is static ADAS calibration, which needs controlled conditions a driveway cannot provide — we check whether your vehicle requires it before booking.

What vehicles do you work on?

Cars, pickups, SUVs and vans across the common makes on Texas roads. The practical question is not the badge but whether the glass can be sourced, which is why we ask for the VIN. Send it and we will tell you straight away.

Can you handle several vehicles for a business or fleet?

Yes, and scheduling them together is more efficient than booking them one by one. Send the list with VINs and we will work out the glass ordering and sequencing in one go. If the vehicles sit inside a secured yard, we will need the gate procedure and a named site contact in advance.

Price, insurance and warranty

Why will you not give me a price over the phone straight away?

We will give you a real price — we just need the VIN first. Year, make and model do not identify your windshield; trim does. Two vehicles with the same badge can take completely different glass depending on the options fitted. A number quoted without the VIN is a number for the cheapest variant, and it is exactly why quotes get revised after booking. We would rather spend two minutes getting it right.

Do you work with insurance?

Yes, and we can provide the documentation your carrier asks for. What we cannot do is tell you what your policy covers — only your insurer can. Before you call them, it is worth knowing three things: whether you carry comprehensive, what your deductible is, and whether you have a separate glass endorsement.

What does the warranty cover?

The business advertises a lifetime warranty on workmanship. We are not going to restate the exact terms on this page until they have been confirmed in writing, because a warranty summary that turns out to be wrong is worse than no summary. Ask us directly when you book and we will tell you precisely what is covered, for how long, and under what conditions.

After the work

How soon can I drive afterwards?

For a chip repair, immediately — there is no adhesive and no cure. For a replacement, the urethane has to reach minimum drive-away strength first, and that depends on the specific adhesive, the temperature and the humidity on the day. Your technician will give you the figure for the product actually used on your vehicle. Treat anyone who quotes a fixed number regardless of conditions with suspicion.

I have wind noise or a water leak since the work. What now?

Call us. That is a bead issue, it is fixable, and it does not improve on its own. Water tracking down inside an A-pillar reaches your carpet and eventually your wiring, so it is worth dealing with immediately rather than waiting to see whether it happens again.

My driver-assistance warning light came on after a replacement. Is that normal?

It means the camera needs attention, and you should call whoever did the work. It is worth knowing the reverse is not reassuring: plenty of vehicles will not set a warning light at all when the camera is misaligned. The absence of a light is not evidence of a correct calibration — the post-calibration scan report is.

Tell us what happened to your glass

Send the VIN and a photo and we will come back with a real number — the glass your vehicle actually takes, whether it needs camera recalibration, and when we can be there.
