What a windshield replacement actually costs
More than most sites will tell you, and less than you probably fear. This page explains what moves the number, what is inside the one we quote you, and how to get an exact figure in about the time it takes to find your VIN.
Why a “from” price would not help you
Every auto glass site in Dallas publishes one, and it is nearly always the cheapest windshield the company has ever fitted — a base-trim sedan with no sensors, no heating element and no camera. It is a real number. It is just not your number, unless you happen to drive that car.
What that figure does is set an expectation the actual quote then has to climb down from, which is a bad conversation to have with somebody whose car is already off the road. We would rather not start there. Send the VIN and the number you get is the number you pay.
What decides the price
These are the things that genuinely move a windshield quote, in rough order of how much they move it:
- Vehicle and trim
- Glass availability and part cost vary enormously between a common sedan and a low-volume or recent model.
- Glass features
- Acoustic interlayer, heating elements, heads-up display, rain and light sensors, and shade bands all raise the part cost.
- Camera and sensor hardware
- A windshield carrying a driver-assistance camera costs more, and adds a required recalibration step.
- Calibration type
- Static calibration needs targets and controlled space. Dynamic calibration needs a road drive. Some vehicles need both.
- Mouldings and clips
- Many vehicles use single-use mouldings and clips that must be renewed rather than reused.
- Rust or prior damage at the pinchweld
- Corrosion found under the old glass has to be treated properly. Bonding new glass over rust guarantees a repeat failure.
- Where the work happens
- Some calibrations cannot be completed in an open car park and need controlled conditions.

The one thing that can change a quote
Corrosion at the pinchweld, which is the metal lip the glass bonds to. It only becomes visible once the old windshield is out, and bonding new glass over rust guarantees the same failure again in a year or two. If we find it, we stop and explain what it needs before we go any further. What we will not do is carry on quietly and put it on the invoice.
Repair or replacement?
A repair costs considerably less than a replacement, and where the damage genuinely qualifies it is the better answer for both of us. Whether yours qualifies depends on the size and depth of the chip and where it sits on the glass, which is a judgement rather than a rule of thumb. If you are claiming on insurance
Texas comprehensive cover usually includes glass, and in many policies the deductible is the whole of what you pay. Whether claiming is worth it depends on your deductible against the cost of the job, and occasionally on what a claim does to your renewal, so it is worth working out before you call the insurer rather than after. How to get a real number
Three things get you an exact quote rather than an estimate:
- The VIN. Bottom corner of the windshield on the driver side, on the door jamb sticker, or on your insurance card. This is what identifies the exact glass your vehicle takes.
- A photograph of the damage. One from outside showing the break, and one from inside behind the mirror if your car has a camera there.
- The ZIP code where the vehicle will be. Where it is parked, not where you live — it decides the scheduling, not the price.

Common questions about cost
Why is there no price list on this page?
Because a windshield is not one product. The glass for a base model and the glass for the same car with a heated wiper park, an acoustic interlayer and a forward-facing camera are different parts at genuinely different costs, and no honest single figure covers both. A "from" price would be accurate for the cheapest car we ever do and wrong for everyone else. We would rather spend two minutes on your VIN and give you a number that holds.
How quickly can I get an actual price?
Usually within the hour during the working day, and often faster by phone than by form. Send the VIN and the ZIP where the vehicle will be, and we can identify the exact glass rather than guessing from the year and model.
Does the quote change once you see the car?
It should not, and that is the point of quoting from the VIN rather than the model name. The one thing that can change it is corrosion found under the old glass, because bonding new glass onto rust guarantees a repeat failure. If we find it, we stop and talk to you before doing anything — you will not discover it on the invoice.
Is calibration included in the price you quote?
It is quoted up front where the vehicle needs it, as part of the job rather than as an extra at the end. If you are comparing quotes, this is the line worth checking on the other one: a cheaper number that has quietly left calibration out is not cheaper, it is incomplete.
Is a repair cheaper than a replacement?
Considerably, when the damage qualifies. Not every chip does — size, depth, and how close it sits to the edge or to your eyeline all decide it, and a repair attempted on damage that needed replacing wastes your money and your morning. Do you charge extra to come to me?
No. Mobile service is how we work rather than a premium option, and the quote does not grow because you are in Waxahachie instead of Dallas. Distance affects when we can get to you, not what it costs.
